In the 1970's when Ray Blanton was governor, tourism was separated from economic development. Unfortunately, Tennessee's tourism regions across the state were identical to its development districts which is not a good idea. These regions need to be established using natural geography as a guide for boundaries.
Shelby County should have its own "region".
Mark V. Reeder has made two amendments to the basic tourism re-districting plan for west Tennessee.
In January, 2016 the glut of counties located north and south of Jackson, Tennessee were separated into "Northwest Tennesse" and "Southwest Tennessee" .
In 2019 the counties bordering the Kentucky Lake should have north and south areas.
